It's business as usual for towns across Fenland this weekend as they gear up for their annual Christmas lights switch-ons.

March, Wisbech and Chatteris will all be getting lit up for the festive period and after last year's events having to be cancelled due to the pandemic, it is hoped people will return to the streets for all the usual fun.

March will be the first to have its lights turned on today Friday (26).

Father Christmas will be taking to the stage to do the honours on Friday as March gets lit up for Christmas.

Drivers need to be aware the town centre will be closed to traffic from late afternoon as the fair rides and stalls are set in Broad Street.

Father Christmas will be arriving in his sleigh onto the Market Place ready to flick the switch at 7pm. He will be handing out sweets en-route as well as from the special stage, but sadly he will not be hanging around this year as organisers have tried to keep the event out doors making a grotto a no-go.

The event will also include live music from In the Mood.

Chatteris Christmas Lights Switch-on has long be renowned as one of the area's biggest and best and it is back to normal this year.

Chatteris Christmas Lights Committee will be holding their event from 3pm tomorrow Saturday (27) and drivers should be aware that the town centre will be closed to traffic from midday.

This is the 36th annual switch on night and it will have all the usual fun fair rides, community stalls, food and drink and Chatteris will also be hosting Santa in his grotto. While DJ Sooty will be providing musical entertainment.

Make your way towards the bandstand for 4.15pm so as not to miss Santa and a special guest in his sleigh heading to the stage ready to push the big red button and light up the whole town.

It is hoped this Sunday's Wisbech Christmas Lights Switch-on will see a return to crowds like this in 2019.

Visitors are asked to bring along any loose change to pop in one of the collection buckets the lights team will be wandering around with.

In Wisbech Sunday (28) is the day the town gets lit up and like its two neighbours things are returning to normal with a whole lot of fun promised by Wisbech Town Council, which organises the event.

The Market Place is the place to be between 3pm and 6pm with the lights switch on being carried out by Gladys Christmas and local radio star Jonny Dee.

If you love Santa then you're in luck because he will be there and if you also love alpacas then you will be delighted to hear they will be there too.

There will be entertainment from a host of local performers including Nine Lives Theatre Company, Aaron Bolton, Elm Road School Choir, Laura Jayne Shippey's dancers and more.

There will be a big screen showing all the action. And Finally the town council is promising two very special 'animal' appearances
