Firefighters tackled electricity pylon blaze on Oldfield Lane in Wisbech that caused smoke across town




An electricity pylon fire that caused the whole of Wisbech to be “filled with smoke” after it burst into flames has now been extinguished.

The fire on Oldfield Lane in Wisbech has been put out after firefighters managed to get it under control at around 1pm this afternoon.

Appliances from March and Wisbech, alongside a crew from Norfolk, were called at 11.50am to the blaze on Oldfield Lane.

Crews arrived to find an electricity pylon on fire, which then spread to nearby hedges and trees.

A resident told the Fenland Citizen that the town was “filled with smoke and smells of burning plastic”.

There have been no reports of any injuries.
