Five Whitemoor Prison staff injured following serious assault at the March jail




Five members of staff at Whitemoor Prison in March have been taken to hospital this afternoon (Thursday) following a serious assault on an officer by two prisoners.

Cambridgeshire Police confirmed the incident is ongoing high security jail in Longhill Road but said it was being dealt with by the Metropolitan Police.

A Prison Service spokesman said: “Five members of staff at HMP Whitemoor attended hospital following a serious assault on an officer by two prisoners on January 9. The incident was quickly resolved by our brave staff and our thoughts are with the injured officers at this time.

“We do not tolerate assaults on our hard-working officers and will push for the strongest possible punishment. We have referred the incident to the police and it would be inappropriate to comment further at this time.”

Jackie Marshall, Prison Officers Association (POA), said: “Yet another violent attack on our staff and violence is just getting higher and higher across the prison estate, it’s raising it through the roof. And the department don’t seem to know how to deal with it.”

The Metropolitan Police have been asked to comment.
