Whittlesey councillors concerned over amount of flytipping, urging community if they ‘see it, report it’

Councillors are concerned about the high amount of fly-tipping around the area.

During Thursday evening's Whittlesey Town Council meeting, the clerk, Sue Piergianni, reported that people have been dumping rubbish.

She said: “There is a huge amount down Long Drove.”

Ms Piergianni was made aware that the Fenand District Council (FDC) has 40 pieces of evidence “relating to companies in Peterborough who have paid another company to take their waste away.”

She said the company concerned has sent details to FDC, saying they had been assured that the waste company had the relative licence. Fenland Council is now preparing to prosecute the waste company.

Ms Piergianni added: “It will be a long drawn process,” adding: “There was another tip down there two days ago. The district council is monitoring Long Drove quite a lot.”

Cllr Alex Miscandlon, mayor of Whittlesey, added: “On the subject of fly-tipping, we all know it goes on, but I would ask you all to be vigilant if you see it, report it.

“It is the only way it gets cleared up, and it's the only way they get prosecuted, and Fenland does prosecute them, and they do receive a quite heavy fine.”
