Leverington football tournament brought parking chaos

This letter was originally published in this Wednesday's Fenland Citizen...

Your story in July 28’s Citizen about the Leverington football tournament did not tell the whole story.

Our village was turned into gridlock by it – they do not have enough parking.

Youngsters enjoying the tournament.

cars parked on double yellow lines, cars parked both sides of narrow roads, and on pavements with little room to go through.

One woman in a 4x4 knocked down our village hall wall and I understand another one of these tournaments is planned this month.

Problems like this are going to get worse and we will get this on a daily basis if they get their new 3G pitches which, I understand, will be open from 8am to 10pm.

The police are not interested in taking action on these parking infringements and said they had their staff on holiday that weekend (open season for crime?).

We cannot police the village – only the police have that power.

The story in the same paper about how they shut down the car meet at Tesco car park (private land) shows they are selective in what they do.
