Former Fenland District Council leader Alan Melton takes over as clerk to Manea Parish Council
A former Chatteris councillor has made a return to local government - but this time he is the man behind the scenes.
Alan Melton, former Conservative county, district and town councillor, has taken on the role of parish clerk at Manea and is looking forward to his first meeting this Monday, since taking over the job last month from Terry Jordan.
Mr Melton was one of the most well-known faces in local government in the county serving 33 years as representative for Birch ward in Chatteris, until his retirement from office in May 2015.
He said: "Being semi-retired I have the time and I was looking for a new challenge. I have held senior posts both at county and district level and I'm a former town councillor so I have a pretty good understanding of how local government works."
His wife Joanna is town clerk to Chatteris council.
