Four community groups receive £250 from newly opened Jack's in Chatteris now they could win £500
The newly opened Jack's store in Chatteris is keen to support local community groups with two programmes.
The first is the Jack's Supports which will see proceeds from the sale of carrier bags in the store donated to a community group every three months - with customers voting to choose who receives the lion's share.
At present four groups are vying for votes to win a minimum grant of £500. The four: Chatteris Wellness Support, Chatteris and Villages Children's Centre, Chatteris Women's Institute and the King Edward Centre, Chatteris are already winners, having been awarded £250 each for being nominated in the first place.
The vote is currently under-way with customers invited to put a token into a collection point near the store's exit for their chosen charity.
At the end of the three months the group with the most tokens will be awarded with a minimum of £500.
In the meantime Ian Westwood, the store's manager, is looking for nominations for the next round when applications open at the end of the month. Nominations can be made online at www.jacks-uk.com/jacks-supports
Jack’s is helping to stop good food going to waste by running the Community Food Connection scheme. Working with UK food redistribution charity FareShare colleagues ensure any unsold food safe for human consumption is offered to local charities and community groups. Jack’s are looking for more groups to sign up to receive the food.
