Free and low-cost activities taking place across the district thanks to Active Fenland




New free and low-cost events have been added to a packed programme for residents to enjoy.

Active Fenland, an organisation run by the district council, has revealed dozens of activities for people to get stuck into in the coming weeks.

From family fun days to exercise classes, Cllr Susuan Wallwork says “there’s sure to be something perfect for you”.

“There’s always so much on offer for all ages thanks to Active Fenland’s free and low-cost programme of social and fitness activities,” she added.

“We urge everyone to take a look at the Fenland District Council website to get all the details.”

Added to the list is a free family fun day taking place at Peckover House, in Wisbech, next Thursday.

Aimed at primary-aged children, visitors can grab an activity card from the Active Fenland team on the day and collect stamps by completing Maths and Literacy tasks to win a certificate.

Other events include:

• A free social stroll - where new parents, or those with little ones in a buggy can meet, walk and chat together through West End Park, in March, on every first and third Thursday of the month. It will take place from 10am until 11am, with a meeting point at the entrance to George Campbell Leisure Centre on City Road.

• Active for Health Next Steps - a session for inactive adults to take part in lower-intensity classes every Wednesday from 4.45pm to 5.45pm, at the Hudson Leisure Centre in Wisbech for £3.50 per person.

•Diabetes exercise classes - £3 per session at the Hudson Leisure Centre from 11.15am until 12.15pm.

Additionally, venues across the district will be offering tea dance classes for £4 per person, but booking is essential.

Participants can try a beginners’ dance lesson from 1.30pm until 2pm, and a main event for all abilities from 2pm until 4pm, with snacks included.

The classes will be offered at Chatteris King Edward Centre on Friday, June 20, Gorefield Community Hall on Friday, July 25, Manor Leisure Centre in Whittlesey on Friday, August 8 and Braza Club in March on Friday, September 5.
