Friday Bridge driver surprised he was over drug-drive limit
A man from Friday Bridge was surprised to find himself over the drug-drive limit 12 hours after
smoking a cannabis joint.
Robert Sykes, of The Leam, was pulled over by police on the A47 at Swaffham at 11pm on March 10.
A search turned up 19.59 grams of cannabis and Sykes failed a roadside drug wipe.
He was arrested and found to have 14 micrograms of a cannabis derivative per litre of blood. The specified limit is two.
At King’s Lynn Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, Sykes (27) pleaded guilty to drug-driving and
possession of a controlled class B drug.
In mitigation, Nick Diable said his client had been using cannabis to help him sleep.
“He’d smoked a cannabis cigarette at about 10 o’clock that morning,” added Mr Diable. “The effects had worn off within a couple of hours. He didn’t think he would be over the drug-drive limit some 12 hours later. He was somewhat surprised by the result.
“He’s also learned a lesson about not driving after using any drug.”
Sykes was disqualified from driving for 12 months, fined £150 and ordered to pay £85 costs and £32 victim surcharge. For drug possession he was fined £125. An order was made for the forfeiture and destruction of the cannabis.
