Middle-Level Commissioners and The Bank Raising Project is the next subject of The March Society’s talks
Ever wondered about how the Fens were drained - then the next event being hosted by the March Society is for you.
Nicola Oldfield chief engineer with the Middle Level Commissioners, will be giving a presentation entitled ‘In the steps of Vermuyden’. A short history of fenland drainage explaining how Internal Drainage Boards and the Middle Level Commissioners work today to manage water in the catchment, highlighting the challenges due to a changing climate.
The event, which is being held on Wednesday, June 19 at 7pm at March Library is open to anyone interested.
Admission is £2 for members and £3 for visitors.

The last event was a talk on the listed buildings in March given by the society’s chair, Jennifer Lawler.
Jennifer explained the significance of a building being designated as ‘listed’ and outlined the 3 grades of listing.
Pictures of March’s 52 listed buildings were shown and facts about the buildings and their previous occupants were given.
