Fun day boost for Alan Hudson Day Treatment Centre in Wisbech

A fundraising day in aid of the Alan Hudson Day Treatment Centre in Wisbech netted more than £1,600.

Held at the Secret Garden Touring Park in Wisbech St Mary the day included a host of activities including a tombola, cake stall, hook a duck, a bouncy castle, face painting and lots more.

There were also refreshments and live entertainment from Purple Angels, Two Cats and Payne, who all donated their time for free.

Highlights of the day included fundraising nurse Jane Clarke, a keen runner who announced earlier this year she was planning on taking five physical challenges in aid of the Arthur Rank Hospice Charity, which runs the Alan Hudson Centre.

They included a couple of marathons and half marathons - including the London Marathon this autumn - and a 100 mile bike ride.

She completed her 100 mile bike ride at the fundraising day and arrived at the Secret Garden to applause from visitors and supports.

Jane then proceeded to wield the clippers for the second of the day's highlight - Carol Storey having her head shaved for the second year in a row for the centre.

Carol from Wisbech is currently undergoing chemotherapy for a relapse of myeloma of the bone marrow, and so knows first hand the great service provided by the Alan Hudson Day Treatment Centre.

Toni Bird, fundraising co-ordinator for the centre, said: "We had a visit from Wisbech Mayor, Andrew Lynn, who made a generous donation of £50 to our charity.

"We raised a massive £1,655 on the day. Thank you to everyone who supported us, with your kindness we can continue to support patients and their families in our community free of charge."
