Funday launches £250,000 3G pitch appeal at March
Soccer enthusiasts at March have launched a £250,000 appeal to give the town a much-needed 3G pitch.
It would provide a modern year-round facility for teams, meaning less cancellations due to waterlogged pitches and bad weather.
Fundraising for the 3G pitch project got off the ground on Easter Monday with a family fun day, Easter egg hunt and sponsored dribble obstacle course at the Estover Road pavilion.
March Academy FC (22 teams of all ages, including two girls teams), March Town Youth (six teams) and Estover CIC joined forces to organise the event and get the appeal underway.
Local businesses will be invited to help in due course and offered sponsorship opportunities and applications for grant aid will be submitted as the fundraising grows.
This is part of an ongoing project to create a community hub for the use of all sports and people throughout March and the surrounding villages.
Quizzes, race nights, bingo nights and other events are in the pipeline for the future.
The fun day brought together two March football teams and provided the children with fun activities and getting involved in a good cause that will benefit them and others.
The 3G is seen as vital to March, not just for a modern football facility, but the potential for bringing/hosting more teams, tournaments, other sporting activities to the town as well as bringing the town, people and clubs together.
Committee member Amanda Silley, said: “This is a very exciting venture that will benefit not just the youth of Fenland but a venue for everyone to enjoy.
“The potential that this site has is immense and it is truly an exciting time for March.”
Joining Amanda on the fundraising committee are Lindsey Butt, Alex Fisher, Rob Chapman, Andrew Silley and Amanda Silley.
