A new arts project aimed at those with learning difficulties is about to launch in March thanks to new funding.

Local charity, Eddie’s has been awarded a grant of £14,985 as part of a Cultivate Grant from the Cambridgeshire Community Foundation (CCF).

The funding is being used to create a new and inclusive performing arts project for people in and around March, which will offer vibrant age appropriate classes.

Splat Theatre will enable people of all ages with learning disabilities to learn new skills, become more independent and improve confidence.

Eddie’s has been delivering performing arts projects for a number of years with great success in Cambridge City and they are really excited to be expanding to the Fenland area.

John Ellis, chief executive at The Edmund Trust and Eddie’s said: “Everything we do is about enhancing the lives of people with learning disabilities through a wide range of services. This funding has given us the opportunity to enrich more people’s lives. We are so grateful to Cambridgeshire Community Foundation for this funding.”

CCF is dedicated to improving the quality of life for the people of Cambridgeshire. They work with many partners to actively inspire philanthropy and increase permanent resources for the county. They invest in important community programmes through grants. They also provide leadership and a forum for dialogue on critical community issues

Splat Theatre is a vibrant, happy and supportive project, split into three age appropriate classes. The sessions provide an opportunity for people aged seven and over with a learning disability, acquired brain injury or Autism to do an activity they enjoy.

Splat also aims to improve confidence and reduce isolation as well as giving students a platform to gain arts qualifications, practice multimedia editing and build social skills and connections.

The new sessions will be held in Norwood Road in March on a Thursday evening. Classes are delivered by experienced staff, with support from volunteers.

Splat Theatre already offers sessions in Cambridge on Wednesday evenings at Coleridge Community College.
