Gallery: Chatteris once again shines brightly after Christmas lights switch-on
Once again Chatteris is one of the top spots for Christmas lights in the area following the town’s annual switch-on event yesterday (Saturday).
Established in 1985, Chatteris Christmas Lights are recognised as one of the best displays for many miles around.
In fact the market town’s display is even considered superior to those in much larger towns.
The Lights Committee is entirely voluntary and the results of their many hours of hard work, before and after the switch-on event, are enthusiastically appreciated by residents and visitors over the festive period.
From the switch-on until the end of the festive period the lights are on daily from 3pm until midnight so visitors can visit the town, wander through the main streets to enjoy them
The lights have been a great success story from the outset, and with well-deserved support from the community, will continue to be so which is why this year Chatteris Lights Committee has launched an appeal to raise £2,500 to help fund new displays and to also help with the ongoing programme to upgrade the lights to LED.
You can donate via JustGiving.
The Christmas trees are selected from the Elveden Estate each year to feature in the churchyard and Market Hill Gardens.
This year the switch-on was carried out by Father Christmas with the help of Len Leney, Elliot Foreman, Chatteris Town Crier Lawrence Weetman and Stephanie Street and the event saw a return of the fun fair rides and charity stalls as well as entertainment.
