Gallery: Crowds line streets for cavalcade of vehicles in Wisbech and District Historic Vehicle Club’s 33rd annual road run
Vehicles of all shapes and sizes took part in the 33rd annual Wisbech and District Historic Vehicle Club's car run.
Commercial vehicles lined up alongside cars, motorbikes and scooters for the run which set off from Somers Road car park in Wisbech yesterday (Sunday) heading for Peterborough via Long Sutton, Holbeach and Spalding.
People lined the streets to watch the procession as it made its way along the 70 mile route.
The cavalcade made it to the half-way venue at the Bauermedia car park at Lynchwood by late morning where the 160 vehicles were on show for a couple of hours before making the return journey, this time via Whittlesey, Coates, and Wisbech St Mary.
Back in Wisbech, having completed the 70 mile road run, there was a static display of the vehicles, the oldest of which was a 1929 Austin Heavy 12/4.
Awards were presented with a Standard Super 10 owned by Brian Cundy winning the best pre-1960 car. The best post 1960 car award went to Rex Meaden and his Reliant Scimitar VTE.
Rex, who was the entries secretary for the run, said organisers were thrilled with the success and said the commercial section in particular was superb and would have been worthy of any national show.
The winner of the best pre-1960 lorry went to a Knowles Transport owned 1954 Sentinel, while the post 1960 lorry award went to a 1969 ERF Artic owned by Ken Thomas.
There were also various awards of the motorcycle section.
Last year the road run, which is sponsored by Elgood’s Brewery, raised £1,000 for charity and organisers are hoping to achieve around the same amount again this year. Last year the money went to Blood Bikes but a decision on where this year’s proceeds will go will be made by the club shortly.
