Gallery: Flatlands Road Run hits Fenland streets with around 60 lorries joining in
Around 60 vintage lorries took to the streets of Fenland and beyond yesterday (Sunday) for a road run.
Starting from the Chapel Road car park in Wisbech the vehicles set off on the event dubbed the Flatlands Road Run heading first through Elm, Friday Bridge, Coldham, March and Wimblington.
They then continued through Chatteris, on to Warboys, Abbots Ripton, Woodwalton and Alconbury before stopping or a break at Peterborough services.
After the comfort stop it was back on the road for the participants who then headed off to Spalding, Holbeach and Long Sutton, before eventually returning to Wisbech.
Main organiser John Thomas, owner of Ken Thomas Haulage at Guyhirn explained the event had been held as a means of allowing enthusiasts to get together informally for the first time since last eyar.
He said: "We had lorries join us from all over including Norwich, Beccles, and Great Yarmouth. There were a lot of lockdown restoration projects on show, which was nice to see and there was a good turn out of members of the public who were keen to have a look.
"It was informal and was organised through word of mouth, but people are keen for me to make it a regular event, so I will be looking into possibly making that happen.
"Lorries were able to join and leave at any point along the route but about 30 of us completed the full circuit."
John was driving a German built Magirus Deutz lorry dated 1966, but there were some older vehicles going back to the early 1950s right up to the year 2000 taking part.
