Wisbech lights up for Christmas with major festive fun event
An afternoon and evening full of entertainment and fun heralded the annual switching on of the Wisbech Christmas Lights yesterday (Sunday).
Thousands of people turned out for the hugely successful event hosted by Wisbech Town Council.
It included loads of entertainment from schools, local theatre groups, and performers and was organised and stage-managed by Michele Larkin from Nine Lives Theatre Company.
Starlight Theatrical provided the sound and the big screen.
Father Christmas on his sleigh was one of the big attractions thanks to Wisbech Lions who helped him visit the town for the day.
This year included some new additions to the lights as well as a new snowman decoration on the Market Place.
Volunteers, who helped run the event to help ensure its success, enter into the festive spirit by dressing up for the occasion to help run stalls, or act as stewards to ensure everyone’s safety.
Councillor Sam Hoy who chairs the council’s events and festivals committee paid tribute to all those who helped in the lead-up to the event and on the day itself.
She also thanked all the sponsors who either gave their services or made a cash donation towards making it such a success.
