Gallery: Village royalty turn-on the lights at Doddington at the annual Christmas switch-on event

Saturday saw the annual Christmas lights switch-on in Doddington and once again it drew the crowds.

Doddington's Carnival prince and princess, Kieran Rush and Danielle Buxton flicked the switch to light up the village lights, which this year are brighter than ever thanks to the addition of 1,400 new bulbs.

Cash from the Tesco token scheme meant there was £4,000 more to spend on this year's lights' spectacular, which also saw a record number of stalls - in fact there were over 60 in total.

Santa was, of course, in attendance in his grotto where he was handing out presents and having a chat with children eager to place those last minute present requests.

A snow machine brought an extra-added festive touch to the afternoon, which also saw singers Vicky Mason and the Future Stars as well as Doddington Singers entertain.

The event was held across various sites including the village hall, the Methodist hall, the George pub's car park and the Clock Tower.
