Gallery: Villagers turn out for 5k run and disco night in aid of Headway charity

A charity day held in a Fenland village which included a 5k run and disco party has raised more than £2,700.

It was organised by Manea couple Ian and Kerry Scott-Logan for the Headway charity, which supports people and their families who have sustained a head injury.

The fundraising comes after Ian suffered life-threatening injuries in a car crash in December 2020, including a major head injury which left him fighting for his life.

It took months for Ian to slowly recover physically and in that time he feared he would never run again but now he and husband Kerry have been busily training for this year's London marathon in October.

As keen runners, who regularly take part in the March Park run, they were delighted that this year's Manea 5k organised by Ben and Sammy Fox would be in aid of their chosen charity.

In all 128 runners took to the village streets on Saturday morning raising £625 towards the cause.

There were prizes for runners competing in fancy dress and the winner was Cathy Gib-de-Swarte who came dressed as a sheep. Charlie Addison was the junior with the most style and best sprint finish.

There was also a beat the tractor challenge.

All runners were presented with a medal, supplied by Bullman's Wooden Bits and Bobs and sponsored by Safe Training Consultants.

After the run participants were able to tuck into a bacon or veggie bun cooked by Forbidden Burgers and donated by March Tesco Store.

In the evening the fun turned to a family disco party at the village hall, which was also a celebration of the couple's marriage, which happened in December with only limited guests. The evening included a grand draw and games as well as a hog roast.

Takings from the evening brought the total raised to £2,716.

Ian said: "We are blown away by the support and love of everyone who took part or attended the party. We are grateful to everyone who donated a raffle prize and we just want to say a massive thank-you. Headway charity have been there for me almost from day one after my injury, and they have been absolutely fantastic, so it is great to be able to give something back to them"
