GET ACTIVE: Parks and green spaces
Now that the weather is getting warmer and the nights are drawing out, what better time to get out and explore your local parks and green spaces?
Getting out in the fresh air is great for both our physical and mental health.
Therefore, getting out and about can give you all these benefits for FREE.
Exercise releases feel-good hormones, and studies have shown it can:
- Improve your mood, reduce stress and manage anxiety;
- Help you sleep better and increase your energy;
- Improve your confidence and self-esteem and reduce the risk of depression.
As well as helping to look after your mental health, walking also helps to look after your physical health, by helping you to:
- Maintain a healthy weight;
- Increase your cardiovascular fitness and keep your muscles and bones healthy.
- It can also reduce your risk of developing cardiovascular diseases such as high blood pressure, stroke and Type 2 diabetes

To help you and your family gain these wonderful benefits we have created a treasure hunt challenge for you to take part in.
The Treasure Hunt challenges you to find objects around the park that begin with each letter of the alphabet whilst walking around your local park or green space.
But it’s not just about the walking. It’s a great way to help your children with spelling. You can make up stories and poems using the objects you find, to really provide an interactive learning experience.
Why not learn the different names of trees and flowers or identify the different types of birds. It’s a great way to add more fun to your daily walk or build it into a day out with a picnic. Please make sure you stay within the government guidance at all times.

We can either send you an email with the Treasure Hunt Challenge attached that you can print off at home or we can post you a paper copy for your family to enjoy.
The treasure hunt challenge is the first of a series of challenges and games that we will be making available to you for FREE as part of our new Weekend Warriors series; along with some special challenges as part of our Holiday Heroes.

- Buggy fit (March West End Park), Thursdays, 11am to noon, free.
