Getting active this summer

This summer some of the Active Fenland sessions are starting to make a return, although with some changes, writes Heidi Lemmon.

For families there is the Family Fit & Fed Takeaway. Families can receive a packed lunch, game card and basic equipment to take away to enjoy at home, maintaining social distancing.

The game cards feature a few simple games for your family to enjoy together and be active. They are designed for primary aged children, building key skills and active learning.

You can try tennis in March and Wisbech.

They can be played both indoors and outdoors, plus they change each week for even more fun.

The Fit & Fed Takeaways are free and are available for collection in either March or Wisbech but are subject to booking in advance.

Also, keep an eye on social media for fun activities for families to do during the summer.

Did you miss Wimbledon this year? Why not come play yourself? Tennis has also re-started for both adults (14plus) and juniors (six pus) in March and Wisbech.

March sessions are at
Estover on Thursdays, juniors 5-6pm and adults 6-7pm.

Wisbech sessions are at Wisbech Tennis Club on Wednesdays, 6-7pm. These sessions are currently free although spaces are limited.

We also have free Strength & Balance booklets to try at home. The booklets are great for helping those over the age of 60 to stay fit and healthy by helping to build strength, balance and flexibility.

To be sent a postal copy of the booklet please provide your name and postal address via email (see below for the address).

If you are expecting or are a new mum join in our Pre & Post natal zoom sessions to keep active and meet others.

The weekly sessions are run by a qualified instructor at Bodymode and are free to join at any time for the remaining weeks.

These sessions are Mondays 10-11am. Please book your space.

Can’t make any of those? Don’t worry, there is also lots of free content available on the Active Fenland YouTube channel with over 60 videos for you to follow along.

These include yoga which you can either start from the beginning in a series or find specialist sessions on breathing, sleep aid, and balance.

For something more
energetic, find HIIT workouts, bootcamp style workouts, and even cool down and stretching videos.

All of these videos are available at any time for you to follow along. Just ensure it is at the right level for you and you are safe whilst doing them. Search for Active Fenland on Youtube.

Don’t forget to follow the @ActiveFenland social media pages for more information about new sessions starting (buggy fit and badminton are coming soon), plus lots of other content to keep you active.
