Going Bonkers for Conkers with Wisbech Lions annual contest
There were some conkering champions crowned at the annual Wisbech Lions Bonkers for Conkers contest.
Held at Bygones at Wisbech Football Club, who provided a buffet before the main event, this year the money raised will go to Wisbech St Mary schoolboy Hunter Martin and his family.
Lions teams from Wisbech, Whittlesey, and King’s Lynn descended on the town for the event, together with members of the public also joining the fun.
These included last year’s World Champion Andy Hurrell.
There was a fun night of contests with trophies up for grabs.
The winner of the Lions’ Club trophy was Wisbech team captain Simon Crowson. Non--Lion team winner was Tigers’ captain Rob Gray.
Other winners were John Gathercole and Lynn Palmer. Whittlesey Lions Bashers were the conkering team with Nathan Clements team –Conkernuts, crowned junior champions.
The evening also included a raffle, and Bill Batririck, Wisbech Lions president said: "We had a really good night, everyone enjoyed themselves and we raised a really good amount for Hunter and his family.
“It still surprises me in this day and age and with everything that is going on how generous people are in times of need.
“We would like to thank Andy and Vicky from Bygones for their support and for the tasty buffet they provided.”
