Maddie Hollamby celebrated as The Maddie Rose Campaign asks people to go yellow in her memory

Businesses across the construction industry are set to ‘go yellow’ this September in memory and celebration of a Wimblington woman.

The Maddie Rose Campaign was launched in April by the Construction Youth Trust on the birthday of 22-year-old Maddie Hollamby, who was killed in August last year. It aims to shine a spotlight on the incredible career opportunities available in the construction industry, and in particular the supplier and merchanting sector - where Maddie worked.

Maddie lived with her parents Rachel and Steve in Wimblington, who described her as ‘beautiful inside and out’, loving her work as a marketing executive with Keyline Civils Specialists, and being dedicated to showcasing the aspirational careers available in the sector she cared so passionately about.

At the time of her tragic death, she had just been appointed director of visibility on the Travis Perkins Youth Board, which has three main aims: Attract, Retain, Encourage, and works to bring a younger generation of people into the business, keep them in the sector and help them to view it as a career. It also aims to ensure all younger people feel encouraged, comfortable and safe to speak out and voice their opinions.

More than £55,000 has already been raised through the Maddie Rose Fund, and as part of the Maddie Rose Campaign the Construction Youth Trust, a charity, is working in partnership with the supplier and merchanting sector to develop and deliver a Hidden Careers Programme.

This aims to create a blueprint that can be used to inspire and support young people to access opportunities across the supplier and merchanting sector.

On September 22, Maddie’s Day, it is hoped as many businesses as possible across the supplier and merchanting sector and the wider construction industry will ‘go yellow’ to raise awareness of the Maddie Rose Campaign, by turning branding across social media channels yellow and/or adopting the Maddie Rose Campaign logo.

* Develop and pilot a Hidden Careers schools programme engaging 200-plus pupils across 11 target pilot schools and colleges;

* Offer meaningful work experience placements to 25-plus young people interested in pursuing a career in the sector;

* Highlight live apprenticeship opportunities to recruit at least 10 new apprentices;

* Broaden engagement with sector organisations by publicising case studies, inspirational stories and campaign updates.
