With the topic of GP appointments constantly on our social media feeds one local surgery has published figures showing how many were missed last month.

The George Clare Surgery in Chatteris has put the statistics on its Facebook page and the results are quite shocking.

In total 434 appointments were missed the majority of them with the practice nurse – 214, but there were also 17 GP appointments missed and eight on the day emergency ones too.

Smear tests accounted for 16 of the others missed.

Review clinics including asthma, blood tests, blood pressure, and diabetes added a further 96 to the total, while missed baby immunisations accounted for six.

A second chart showed that as a result well over 6,600 minutes of doctors' and nurses' time was wasted.

Adding to the post the surgery commented: “Please let us know if you are unable to attend your appointment so that we can offer it someone else.”
