Wisbech Grammar School joins the National Junior Travel Ambassadors Scheme

A grammar school has joined the National Travel Ambassadors Scheme that promotes safety for youngsters.

Wisbech Grammar School has announced its official membership in the Junior Travel Ambassadors (JTA) scheme, a national initiative that encourages young people to promote road safety and sustainable travel within their school and community.

This week, pupils received a special visit from Rosemary Mullen, a road safety officer from Cambridgeshire County Council, who introduced the scheme and presented the children with their JTA badges, branded notebooks, and pens.

To mark the occasion, the children performed ‘Eggberta’s Unfortunate Eggsperiment’, a specially written play written by the school’s road safety ambassador lead, which creatively highlights the importance of wearing a helmet when scooting or cycling.

Through this engaging performance, pupils were shown how helmets can prevent serious head injuries, reinforcing a vital road safety message.

Barney Rimmer, headmaster, said: "We are thrilled to be part of the JTA scheme. This initiative educates our pupils on important road safety skills.

“As Junior Travel Ambassadors, this empowers them to be role models and leaders encouraging safer and more responsible travel choices within our school community."

As ambassadors, the pupils will take on leadership roles, helping to raise awareness of road safety and sustainable travel through school projects, campaigns, and events.
