Green-fingered Wisbech care home residents’ give helping hand to Feed Fenland project

Green-fingered residents at a Wisbech care home have been busy cultivating vegetables and herbs to help a worthy cause.

The residents of the Orchard House in Money Bank have been busily growing the foodstuffs to help support The Feed Fenland project.

This week the gardeners: Penny, Joy, Wally, Roy, Jim and Michael visited the community allotment, which is located on the Fenland Community Orchard site on Lynn Road to witness a sign being placed on the wall of the allotment barn marking their involvement in the project.

Sarah Watson, home manager, said: “We have been involved in the project for three or four months and are working with Tesco.

“We have visited the allotment since they were first getting set up and have looked forward to working with Andrew and Malcom at the Orchard. They have supported and made accommodations for our residents so they can comfortably get around the allotment and access the planters. They have provided lots of seating so they can take regular rest breaks.”

“Our residents have been planting vegetables and herbs to support The Feed Fenland project and are so excited to be able to hand what we have grown over to them very soon.

“We have more seeds to sow to continue supporting the project. Our residents are enjoying seeing the progress of what they started to grow in our greenhouse.

“We hope once the whether improves to visit the allotment once a week so the residents can look after their plants and get more involved.

“All the organisations that are involved in the allotments and orchard project have been asked to provide a plaque to mark their involvement and that’s what we took up there this week.
