'Fenland MP Steve Barclay was part of this shameful decision'

A letter writer has expressed anger at the Conservative Party and its representative in this district...

Are the Tory party, with their current majority of 79 starting to return to their old ways of pre-2010, or has nothing changed ? Have we not noticed if they have amended their ways with the obfuscation of Austerity, Brexit and Covid?

The late Sir Peter Viggers, had the decency to resign after his ‘duck island’ expense claim in 2009, and now Owen Paterson has finally fallen on his sword, or was he nudged to do so?

Matt Hancock, another friend of the Prime Minister, resisted until public opinion made him see sense; there seems to be a theme here.

With Owen Paterson, there were 14 separate instances of lobbying and he ‘earned’ £500,000 in the process, hardly a one-off aberration, but a pattern.

However, on November 3, our Government started to mark its own homework with its voting on Divisions 99 and 100, Committee on Standards. A majority of MPs voted to note the Third Report of the Committee on Standards, noted concerns expressed about potential defects in the standards system and therefore declined to consider the report at this time, and resolved to set up a new Select Committee to consider and make recommendations on the current standards system.

This is completely shameful. As a matter of interest I checked the wonderful website, ‘theyworkforyou.com’, which is a very useful tool, to see which of the 244 MPs voted for this ignominious decision.

The Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster voted with the Government. Perhaps most are not aware of who he is ? He is our own Steve Barclay, MP for North East Cambridgeshire.

Perhaps the heady fragrance of power has skewered his moral compass.
