Have your say on ambitious country park project for March
A town park is set for a major facelift and people can have their say on what facilities they would like added.
Fenland District Council has launched a consultation on its plans to extend West End Park in March, as part of the authority’s new, district-wide ‘Fenland Inspire!’ investment campaign.
The proposed March Country Park development would enhance the area’s outdoor recreation opportunities and provide valuable new facilities for the community, including a new sensory garden and improved services for fishermen – with dedicated parking and accessible fishing platforms for people with disabilities.
However, the council is keen to hear from residents about additional features they would potentially like to see included in the park’s design.
A public consultation is now open, giving residents the opportunity to select up to three preferred facilities they would most like to see in the proposed park.
Options include:
a 5G pitch
an integrated walk featuring a sensory garden and wild meadow
play equipment for younger children
play equipment for older children
an assault course
an expansion of existing gym equipment
a roller-skating rink
a hardcore area for group exercise classes such as Yoga or Tai Chi
a climbing wall
a splash pad
a simple park extension with no additional hard equipment
other suggestions from the community
Residents are encouraged to share their views and suggest anything else that should be considered in the development.
The project is part of elected members’ ‘Fenland Inspire!’ investment campaign, which aims to deliver a series of exciting projects across Fenland over the next three years. The projects will focus on enhancing the district’s much-loved sport, leisure, and open space facilities, as well as preserving and celebrating the district’s rich heritage and built environment.

The March Country Park project is being championed by district councillor for March South ward, Cllr Jan French, and district councillor for March North ward, Cllr Steve Count.
Cllr French said: “I’m delighted to be working with Cllr Count on this exciting opportunity for March. The ‘Fenland Inspire!’ projects are all about improving the quality of life for our residents and ensuring Fenland remains an attractive and vibrant place to live, work, and visit. We know how important parks and open spaces are to people’s health and wellbeing which is why we want to extend our much-loved West End Park and create a new Country Park space.
“By gathering input from residents at this stage, we can ensure this development truly meets the needs and interests of our community and offers something for everyone.”
