Have your say on new community hub for town park

People are being asked to have their say on a new £260,000 community hub being planned for a Fenland park.

Fenland District Council, which is looking to build the hub in Wisbech Park, has launched an online survey asking resident what they would like to see provided.

The move comes almost a year after the project won £240,000 from Cambridgeshire County Council through its community fund, which can give grants of up to £500,000 of capital funding for projects.

The Wisbech Park Community Hub was one of six initiatives to win backing from the fund in its final round of funding last September.

The fund was launched in April last year with a £5 million budget and saw 63 application requesting cash with 35 including the Wisbech scheme receiving a slice of the money available.

Other successful bids included: Estover Park - £35,000; Tower Hall, Friday Bridge - £36,000;March Rugby Club club house -£234,000; Gorefield Parish Council pavilion extension - £198,000; Christchurch Community Centre - £15,000 ; Wisbech Town Council – up to £150,000 for Market Place Enhancements and Fenland District Council – up to £75,000 for improvements to West End Park in March.

Now Fenland Council wants to know the public's views on what they would like the new building to contain with the aim of making it as flexible as possible to meet the needs of the local community.

The council's initial thoughts are the facility will house new accessible toilets, with the current toilets being demolished; a small small café and kitchen; community hall suitable for meetings / small events / workshops / use as a creative hub; a small gallery space to view community artwork; outdoor space to use for the café, as well as workshops and community events and next to the hub will be the new water pad and the children’s play area.

The total cost of the project will include a further £20,000 from Fenland and Wisbech Town Councils.
