Hello Wisbech, my old friend – Simon and Garfunkel tribute act comes to town

The nation’s favourite Simon and Garfunkel Tribute slip slides into The Angles Theatre in Wisbech on March 7 with their intimate duo show, Old Friends.

Now in its 18th year of touring, The Sounds of Simon has delighted audiences up and down the UK with its note-perfect reproduction of the award-winning harmonies of the duo, as well as the much-publicised friction between the two singers.

In all, the two-hour show covers all the hits released by Simon and Garfunkel when they were just a folk duo, playing in bars and coffee houses in their native New York. Starting with The Sound of Silence, released in 1965, and playing through to their split in 1970, the show aims to chart Simon’s development as a songwriter and the duo as a partnership.

Ben Bowden and Adam Ellis, who play the duo on stage, have been described by music writers as ‘the world’s best Simon and Garfunkel tribute’ and their full band show as ‘a musical feast for anyone who loves the songs of Paul Simon’. They recently released their new live album, American Tunes.

Adam enjoys the challenge of playing these songs. “It’s great to take a songwriter as brilliant as Paul Simon and then track his development over 10 years. The evening will show how a songwriter practises and develops his craft.”

The show is accompanied by archive footage of Simon and Garfunkel, allowing the stars to tell their own story.

Ben was recently featured on BBC’s The One Show, performing as Paul Simon and talking about Paul’s visit to England in 1965. It was on this trip that Paul reputedly wrote his hit, Homeward Bound. This hit, along with many others, features in the show.
