Help us give the gift of reading to hundreds of children this Christmas appeal by Wisbech illustrator
A Wisbech-born illustrator and designer has teamed up with an author to bring a festive treat to children at his former primary school.
Brandon Mattless has joined with children's author Gracie Wright and they will be visiting Orchards Academy later this month to give away 500 books - one for every pupil.
And Brandon is hoping local people and businesses will get behind the project and offer sponsorship to help cover the costs of such a big give-away.
He said: "We’re asking for donations and contributions from anyone willing to support this project. Giving away such a vast amount of books will enable every child in the school to receive their own signed copy of 'Silly Eric's Countdown to Christmas'.
"The proposed date for the visit is currently the morning of Monday December 16. Myself and Gracie will be giving a talk in the morning assembly and then of course handing out 500 copies of the Christmas book.
"As you will know, the school sits on such a level of deprivation that many families struggle on a daily basis to supply essential items like clothing and food.
"Many of these children do not even own a book. We’d like to give the gift of reading to hundreds of children this Christmas and are asking people to generously come forward in donating and join us in the role of ‘Father Christmas’.
"It’s kind of an urgent appeal as the deadline is creeping up on us now and we’d like to raise as much money as possible for this cause. I have set up a funding page where people can donate at: www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/sillychristmas. More information about the project can be found on the Just Giving page.
"Should people wish to get in touch. They can email me, firstname.lastname@example.org"
