A community has rallied to help a "kind and gentle" delivery driver after his vehicle was stolen on Saturday afternoon.

A Gofundme page was launched by Damian Allison, later that day with a target of £1,000 to help buy Bill, who was said to be "in bits" following the theft, a new car and get him back on the road and able to work again.

But within 24 hours the target had already been smashed with over £1,375 raised so far.

Damian Allison said on his Gofundme page: “The car had been recovered but burnt-out in front, which means he is now off the road and can’t work.

"To all the people who know him, he is the most kind and gentle man you will ever come across.

"All I ask is a donation to get him a new vehicle so he can carry on his daily deliveries.

“All help would be appreciated, many thanks in advance."
