Historic Flying Scotsman steams its way across the Fens with a call at March
Train spotters were in engine heaven this morning as one of the best-known trains of all time steamed its way through the Fens.
The Flying Scotsman (601030) was on its way from Cambridge to Worcester pulling the Christmas Express and it passed through Ely, Manea, and March as it went.
It called at both Ely and March to allow some lucky passengers on board as it then continued on its way stopping again at Peterborough before heading on to Worcester.
March station was buzzing this morning as passengers waited and sightseers keen to glimpse the famous engine mingled on the platform awaiting its arrival.
On the return journey from Worcester later today, the Flying Scotsman will haul the Worcester Christmas Express as far as Leicester. The train will then be swapped for a vintage diesel engine on the final leg between Leicester and Cambridge.
The express was operated by the Railway Touring Company, which will be running the York Yuletide Express on Saturday (16) which will also be calling at March.
It will be pulled by Black 5 steam locomotive No 44871 and tickets cost from £407 per family for standard travel to £928 for premier which includes a full English breakfast in the morning and a four-course dinner on the way home.
