Homes plan for former Chatteris farmyard
A former farmyard could soon be redeveloped for housing if planning permission is granted for up to seven homes.
An application has been submitted by the Ely Design Group for the three-storey, three-bedroom homes on land at 71 Huntingdon Road, Chatteris.
The plans will involve the demolition of the existing dwelling, garage, and farm buildings as well as alterations to the existing access.
A heritage submitted alongside the application by Ely Design Group explains the development site consists of a former farmyard with various derelict farm buildings and the associated farmhouse, which it says is in a poor state of repair.
The statement, which was necessary because of the adjoining listed property at number 73, says: “The proposed development is for 7 quality two-and-a-half storey homes in keeping with the surroundings built using quality materials and adopting traditional design features.”
It goes on: “We have assessed the setting of No. 73 and consider that the proposal is appropriate without having a detrimental effect on its setting.
“The property is in a residential area with houses beside, behind, and also on the opposite side of Huntingdon Road. We have carefully considered the problem of overlooking, overbearing, etc and we consider that No. 73 will not suffer from these.
“We consider that this quality development to replace the derelict house and farmyard will in fact have a positive effect on the setting of this listed building.”
Number 73 is Grade II listed with the listing describing it as an early 19th-century house and says it is listed “for its special architectural or historic interest”.
