Hoping 'two little ducks' can deliver for dying Wisbech man's family
The Fenland community is rallying round to help the family of a dying man make as many memories as possible for his three young children.
The man, who does not want to be named at this stage, and has three children aged two, six and 10, was given the devastating news that he only has a short time to live last month.
He has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer and his family are desperate to help him make lasting memories his children can treasure once he has gone.
Local fundraisers Paul Albutt and Annie Woods and their team from Wisbech St Mary, who run successful charity events throughout the year including a major toy appeal at Christmas, has stepped up to help make that happen for the Wisbech man and his family.
They are organising a family bingo night at Wisbech St Mary Sports and Community Centre on Friday March 11 and are hoping to raise at least as much as their Christmas bingo for the toy appeal, which last year topped £2,000.
Paul said: "The man who is in his thirties doesn't have any specific wishes for what he and his family would like to do, but we want to raise as much money as possible so they can do as much as possible to make those lasting memories for his children.
"It is very hard as the children, particularly the two-year-old, are so young and so when we were approached by a member of the man's family to ask if we could help Annie and I were only too happy to do something. He has been told he only has about four months to live.
"We have already been inundated with prizes from individuals and local businesses keen to help. We have had a £200 donation from Wisbech Lions, another benefactor has donated £100 and another £50, in fact we have already raised around £1,000 since we announced our plans around 10 days ago.
"People have been really generous in supporting us, and we are already running a raffle. We also hope to raffle a smart TV on the night, which is open to people of all ages. There will be children's games during the evening and the family will be present to help draw some of the prizes."
The bingo evening will see the doors open at 6.30pm. To make a donation or give a prize contact Paul on 07908826208,
