‘I’m now proud of the person I see in the mirror’ – says March woman after shedding the pounds with Slimming World
A woman who has battled with her weight has finally shed the pounds and is not only lighter but more energised and is learning to love herself again.
Janet Minett, from March, has dropped two stone in a little over a year and is now determined to maintain her new look and to reach her target weight – she still has another two stone to go.
In her own words Janet describes her weight loss journey with a Slimming World group run by Nik Penn at March Indoor Bowls Club.
She said: “Over the past 16 months, I’ve lost two stone, and it’s been a journey of growth, determination, and learning to love myself again.
“Living with coeliac disease and diabetes has always made weight management feel like a constant battle, and on top of that, menopause brought its own set of challenges—fatigue, mood swings, and feeling like my body wasn’t my own. But this time, I was determined to take control, and Slimming World gave me the support and structure I needed to do just that.
“I’ll admit, this isn’t my first time joining Slimming World. I’ve been here before, but something about this time feels different. I promised myself that this would be my final restart, and I’m proud to say I’ve stuck with it. Slowly but surely, the weight started to come off, and I began to feel like “me” again.
“One of the biggest things that helped was Body Magic. Getting moving wasn’t always easy, especially when I felt tired and unmotivated, but I pushed through. Over time, it became a routine I actually enjoyed, and I started to notice not just the physical changes, but the boost in energy and confidence it gave me.
“But the real difference has been the people around me. My Slimming World group has been my rock. Nik, our fantastic consultant, has cheered me on every step of the way, offering advice and encouragement when I needed it most.
“And then there’s Ros, a friend I made through the group who’s become my biggest cheerleader. We’ve celebrated every milestone together, no matter how small, and having that kind of support has been priceless.
“Now, I can look in the mirror and feel proud of the person staring back at me. I feel healthier, happier, and more confident than I have in years. The energy I’ve gained has completely transformed how I feel day-to-day—I’m not just losing weight, I’m gaining my life back.
“I still have over two stone to lose, but I feel ready to face the challenge. I’m motivated and determined, and for the first time, I truly believe I can reach my goal.
“If you’re thinking about starting your own journey, my advice is to take it one step at a time and trust the process. Surround yourself with people who lift you up and celebrate every little win—it all adds up. If I can do it, you can too.”
