Inquest opens into death of 18-year-old Nojukas Korzeniauskas who was killed in A47 crash at Guyhirn

An inquest has been opened into the death of a teenager whose “smile lit up every room” after he died in a head-on crash with a bus.

Police were called to the collision between a silver Mazda MX-5 and a Scania double-decker on the A47 at Guyhirn on Saturday, May 31, at around 2.45pm.

18-year-old Nojukas Korzeniauskas, of Cygnet Crescent in March, was pronounced dead at the scene.

An inquest into the death was opened last Thursday at Lawrence Court in Huntingdon.

At a brief hearing, the coroner said Korzeniauskas was driving south-west on the A47 and entered the opposing carriageway, colliding with another vehicle travelling north-east.

“The second vehicle left the road onto the northern bank, the first vehicle left the road to the southern bank and caught fire,” the coroner said.

“The occupant was pronounced deceased at the scene.”

A provisional cause of death was not given as the results of Korzeniauskas’ CT scan are still being waited for.

In a tribute from the family, which was issued by the police, it said: “Our dearest Nojukas, you were always our light, our joy, our pride, a part of our hearts.

“Your smile lit up every room, and your laughter was music to our home. Though your journey here was far too short, your presence was a miracle full of endless love.

“We – your mama, dad, and brother – say goodbye not as to someone gone, but to someone who will always remain with us, in our memories, our dreams, our hearts.

“Each day without you is full of longing, but each day with your memory is full of love. Rest in peace, our sweet Nojukas. We love you endlessly. Always. Mama, Dad, and Brother.”

A date for the full inquest has yet to be set.
