Vojini also gained full funding to join the Ferry Path Education programme for young researchers, a nine-week academic session for students to gain invaluable research skills working alongside University of Cambridge academics.

“We learnt so much about biotechnology in detail, in terms of neurodegenerative diseases, protein aggregation, stem cell therapy and so much more,” she said.

Vojini continued: “It was a very engaging project as well because we were able to interact with students and lecturers from all around the world. We exchanged our specific interests in terms of scientific research and learnt more about the world of research from the lecturers.

“We even had a tour to Cambridge University which was probably one of the most interesting parts of the whole course as we had the opportunity to see many colleges and explore the history of the university.

“We ended the course with a presentation on a specific topic of choice in relation to biotechnology which was a very engaging and interesting session.”

Vojini is staying at Thomas Clarkson Academy to study A levels in biology, chemistry, maths and further maths.

Lisa Tarsitano, Year 11 raising standards leader and vice principal for outcomes at TCA, said: “Vojini worked incredibly hard to achieve the results she did and we look forward to watching her continue to learn and impress over the coming two years.

“Gaining a place on the Ferry Path Education programme was a fantastic opportunity that Vojini took to broaden her knowledge. She really embodies our academy’s ethos of ‘Transform, Challenge and Aspire’.”
