Intrepid duo from Chatteris are on the final leg of their mammoth drive from the Fens to Tokyo, Japan in aid of Children in Need
Two intrepid men on a mission to drive from Chatteris to Tokyo are almost at their final destination.
Dan Handley and Dave Brooks, who work together at Chatteris-based Toyota specialists Fensport Performance are on the final leg of their 12,500 mile drive in a 16-year-old Toyota Yaris car to raise money for Chidren in Need.
The pair have completed 13,478 miles crossing through Europe and on into Asia taking in 22 countries that include: Belgium, France, Germany, Serbia, Turkey, Iran, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Mongolia and Russia.
They have had loads of adventures along the way since leaving Chatteris on August 12 and have kept their family, friends and followers updated with regular blog posts, lots of pictures, and videos.
The Yaris, now nicknamed Larry, has had a few problems along the way but generous garages and mechanics have helped out giving their skills for free.
Today (Wednesday) the duo have boarded the ferry in Vladivostok, Russia, which will take them on to Japan, where they will arrive on Friday. They will then spend a week exploring the country before flying home.
Larry will be returning home too, thanks to a generous sponsor who offered to pay for him to shipped back.
Among their adventures saw Dan and Dave having to dig Larry out of deep snow in Mongolia after an early winter hit the country. The snow crippled the main road between the Mongolian capital, Ulaanbataar, and the Russian border and saw them held up for 13 hours.
They have made loads of friends along the way and have often been invited to stay with locals as they pass through the various towns and villages.
