IT man gives laptops new life for Fenland pupils
A Fenland IT specialist is doing his bit to help area school children with their home schooling.
With the help of generous members of the community Guven Dalsar, who runs his own IT firm IT ME Services Ltd based in Parson Drove, has been repairing and reconditioning old laptops to help pupils get online for home learning.
Guven, who has carried out work for the NHS in the past, issued a plea for donations of unused laptops, computers and other technology that can be used by children without such equipment get online.
Within just a few days of issuing his appeal via social media Guven has already had more than ten donated and he has managed to repair and refurbish six of them ready to send out to pupils.
He said: “I have been amazed by how quickly word of my appeal spread.
“I have had companies getting in touch offering me laptops including Swann Edwards Architects at Guyhirn, who have three ready for me to collect.
“Jane Perry who runs JC Accounting in Lynn Road, Wisbech put an appeal on her own website and has had donations from clients.
“Everyone has been so supportive, there is a need in this area as not every child has access at home to the technology they need for home learning, so it is great that I have been able to do my bit to help, thanks to the generosity of the public.”
Guven, who caught the virus while working on an NHS IT project in Birmingham in October, will be contacting schools to make sure the equipment goes to pupils who really need it.
He said: “I did consider asking people to contact me if they needed a computer, but I thought it might be open to abuse, and I really want them to go to those most in need.”
If anyone has a laptop, computer or other device that could be refurbished for use by school children they can contact Guven on 03333 444100 to either arrange for collection to drop them off.
