'There is no better time to start than right now'
Here is the fortnightly Get Active column, by Fenland District Council physical activity co-ordinator Hettie West.
Many people find themselves waiting for the right time to make a change or start something new, but the truth is, there is no better time to start than right now.
To wait for a right time is just waiting for the next obstacle to pop up and cause further delay.
If there is a change in your life you would like to make, set a date, and take the leap: book into a new class, buy that gym membership, get your walking/running shoes out and leave them by the door: the right time to start is always now.
Imagine how great you’ll feel afterwards once the endorphins are flowing and reminding you why you started!
Start small, set your alarm half an hour earlier and go for a 15-minute brisk walk before work on three mornings next week.
How about a home workout? Or a gym class?
Or how about trying something completely different and booking into a brand-new activity: kickboxing, tai-chi, pilates or walking netball or football?
There are so many opportunities out there when you begin looking, and there’s
always time to get active – sometimes you just have to make the time.
If you are unsure where to access any physical activity sessions, please get in contact and we can signpost you to one of our own or a local session.
Here at Active Fenland, we aim to bring everyone the opportunity to experience all the benefits of physical activity.
We are launching a brand-new class on Tuesday, March 1, 11.30am-12.30pm, taking place at the Hudson Leisure Centre in Wisbech. ‘Forever Fit’ is a free class in which
individuals can try out a range of different activities, such as bowling, new age kurling, table tennis and more, followed by tea and coffee afterwards.
This will be a great opportunity for adults to meet new friends or bring their current friends along to spend time with them, while also getting active. No need to book, just turn up.
Check out our New Year timetable on our website to see the range of activities we have going on, all of which have Covid-19 measures in place.
Don’t forget, if you’re not quite ready to be taking part in face-to-face sessions yet, we also have a wide range of activities to follow-along to on our YouTube channel (Active Fenland), starting at beginner level, and we also have a ‘Strength and Balance- At Home Activity’ booklet, available to be posted out to you.
