Join Fenland’s litter heroes for Great British Spring Clean!
Parks, streets and fields across Fenland will be given a spring clean from litter when the district joins the country’s biggest mass-action environmental campaign.
Fenland District Council is once again embracing Keep Britain Tidy’s nationwide Great British Spring Clean, and is encouraging as many people as possible to get involved.
Hundreds of Fenland residents were among a staggering 560,000 volunteer #LitterHeroes who joined forces for last year’s campaign – and this year promises to be even bigger.
Taking place between March 20 and April 13, anyone wanting to get involved can either join one of a number of Great British Spring Clean litter picks being organised by the district’s Street Pride groups or organise their own litter picking event.
The council can provide free litter pickers, equipment and bags to anyone holding their own event and will arrange for bagged rubbish to be collected.
Councillor Peter Murphy, the council’s portfolio holder for the environment, said: “As a Council we already sweep the streets and collect litter seven days a week, 52 weeks of the year – cleaning over 11,000 miles of streets and 210 million square metres of open spaces.
“We are supported by our fantastic volunteer Street Pride groups and individuals who help keep their towns and villages clean and tidy throughout the year – but there is always more work to do. Research shows that people are more likely to litter where litter is already present, so small actions can make a big difference.
“This year we’d love to see even more people get involved as we take a stand against litter and stop it from damaging our environment.”
