Learning centre plans for old barn in Wimblington

A care provider which prides itself on offering quality care and supported living is hoping to open a learning centre in a Fenland village.

Sabanu Care, based in Peterborough, has applied for planning permission to convert an unused barn on land at 14 Addison Road, Wimblington into a learning/day centre for people with learning difficulties.

A design and access statement drawn up by Morton and Hall Consulting in support of the application, explains there are no plans to extend or change the external dimensions of the barn.

However, it says there are plans to improve the barn, which is been in situ for more than 40 years, according to building regulations.

Improvements would include thermal and sound insulation of the building.

The statement adds the site would used to support up to 12 individuals, depending on their needs.

They would be brought to the site by mini-bus and there would ten permanent members of staff at the unit, which would operate Monday to Friday 8am to 8pm.

The site has previously been used as a farm yard for heavy vehicles and the statement points out there is plenty of parking at the location.

The proposed centre would use the existing access.

Sabanu Care is a family-owned business that runs a domiciliary care and supported living service offering home and community support.
