Learning lessons of ‘One Pot Wonders’ with cookery course for over 65s in Wisbech
Wisbech Mayor Sidney Imafidon and other dignitaries learned the wonders of one-pot cooking when he visited a special cookery session targeted at the over 65s.
Councillor Imafidon visited the Ferry Project where he witnessed the final cooking session of the first group of over 65s who participated in the One Pot Wonders cookery course.
This course was seed-funded this year by Cambridgeshire County Council.
Shashi Patel and Natalia Bedzieszak of Care Together at the county council, and David Way, the High Sherrif of Cambridgeshire were also present to highlight the great work that Alison Crouch, cookery tutor, and her team at the Ferry Project cookery school, have put into the over 65s One Pot Wonders cookery school.
The highly nutritious, freshly cooked dishes, were prepared at costs of under £2 and each had two servings. It was a proud moment for all involved especially the residents who participated.
Some of the participants have recently lost a lifelong partner, husband or wife, so are now learning how to cook low-cost, high-nutrition meals again.
Mr Patel said: “It was a real blessing being able to visit the cookery class we funded as part of the Care Together programme Cambridgeshire County Council.
“Aligning to the vision of keeping local people at the heart of everything we do Alison Crouch and the team at The Ferry Project are transforming lives of the most in need.”
The cookery event was funded with the support of Care Together Cambridgeshire County Council Adult Social Care Commissioning.
If you are over 65 and live in Fenland and want to learn some new skills, or learn how to cook healthy, affordable meals all in one pot, send a direct message to the Ferry Project and they will put you in touch with tutor Alison.
