Lease delay for new Wisbech bowls club
Hopes of re-forming a bowls club in Wisbech have received a minor delay after the lease has not yet been signed.
Volunteers, including Mayor David Hodgson and Cllr Peter Human, have been working hard to set up the Hudson Bowls Club after an outcry from bowlers.
The former Wisbech Indoor Bowls Club relinquished its lease at the Hudson Centre during March. It owes Fenland District Council £16,000.
But Cllr Hodgson said he was ‘slightly disappointed’ while giving an update to Wisbech Town Council.
Speaking at Monday’s meeting he said: “We had a meeting tonight with the district council and Living Sport. We expected the lease to have turned up for us to sign and get it all sorted but that didn’t happen.
“But we have been told that we should have it in the next few days.”
Cllr Hodgson said members were hoping to take control of the room at the Hudson Centre by Friday, January 1.
The club has signed up 92 players and will be facing costs of around £41,000.
