Long Sutton library to host history festival event
Long Sutton Library will be helping to celebrate the area’s rich history with an exciting festival.
The first Lincolnshire Libraries Local History Festival kicks off in May with events planned in Long Sutton as well as other county libraries.
The library will be hosting a display on the rarely seen Swains Directories, which date back to 1841, from Tuesday, May 6, to Saturday, May 17.
Tim Machin, of Long Sutton Civic Society, will be giving the Suttons at War talk on Friday, May 9, from 3.15pm. He covers Zeppelins, RAF Sutton Bridge and POW camps.
While Dastardly Deeds, Mysteries, Myths and Legends – a talk about the more gruesome side of the outwardly quiet town of Long Sutton - will be held on Thursday, May 22 at 2.15pm.
Visitors will be able to learn about poisonings, ghosts, phantom dogs and grisly murders!
Nicola Rogers, partnership manager at Lincolnshire Libraries said “As part of Local and Community Month we wanted to celebrate our county’s rich heritage. We’re delighted to be able to invite so many well-known speakers and groups into our libraries to share their knowledge and research and highlight the fascinating local studies collections held in our libraries.”
