Lisa Lowe from Wisbech asks people to donate cost of a pint to help Parkinson's UK

A Fenland woman who completed 12 months of fundraising events last year has launched a new appeal to help her favourite charity - Parkinson's UK.

Lisa Lowe did one event to help the charity every month last year as a way to celebrate her 50th birthday, which was in September 2018.

She wanted to help the charity, where she works, and decided to do something each month between her 50th birthday and last September. As a result Lisa, who is married to Nidge, did everything from arranging a Spooky Sprint in October 2018 at the Hudson Centre, to completing a nerve-wracking abseil down the side of the Northampton Lift Tower – a staggering 127m high last July. She also volunteered her time to help at the Kelpies Walk in Scotland, which is Parksinson's UK's flagship annual fundraiser.

Her 12th and final challenge last September saw her act as a chaperone for the evening at Parkinson’s UK’s annual Moveable Feast, helping diners move restaurants between courses of a three-course meal.

Now the mum of one has come up with an idea to help the charity, which like hundreds of others is struggling with fundraising as many events are cancelled due to the current coronavirus lockdown.

She is asking everyone to donate the price of a pint to the charity, pointing out that people stuck at home because of the Government's lockdown rules are not currently going to the pub for a drink.

Lisa said: "Parkinson’s UK rely on donations there is no local authority funding. Due to the C word we anticipate a significant drop in income.

"As we are unable to go to the pub at the moment I wondered whether people might consider donating the money they would have spent on a pint to Parkinson’s UK . Any amount will be very gratefully received."

She has set a target of £568 and is just under half-way there.

Lisa concluded: " Every hour, two people in the UK are told they have Parkinson's. Thanks to the charity, no one has to face Parkinson's alone. We offer friendship, support, expert information and advice. Parkinson's UK also fund ground breaking research into Parkinson's and we're leading the way to find a cure."
