Litter heroes assemble as Fenland fights back

Fenland District Council is inviting residents, businesses, schools, and community groups to take part in the country’s biggest environmental clean-up.

Now in its ninth year, Keep Britain Tidy’s national Great British Spring Clean will take place from March 15-31.

The council is proud to once again be taking part in, and supporting, the mass action campaign and is encouraging as many people as possible to pick up the challenge.

Residents and groups can get involved by joining one of 11 pre-organised Street Pride community litter picks and project work parties being held across the district, or by organising their own litter pick events.

The Council can provide free litter pickers, equipment, and bags to anyone holding their own litter picks and will arrange for bagged rubbish to be collected.

Cllr Peter Murphy, Fenland District Council’s portfolio holder for the environment, said: “As a Council, we face an ongoing battle to tackle litter dropped on our streets and open spaces.

“Keeping our district clean, safe, and tidy is a huge priority for us and our street cleansing teams work incredibly hard to ensure that’s the case.

“However, they can’t be everywhere at once, which is why the role our amazing Street Pride volunteers play is so important.

“This Great British Spring Clean, we’re encouraging everyone to get involved and play a part in keeping the environment on our doorstep the best it can be.”
