Long Sutton driver's shock at being over drug limit

Long Sutton man who drove into the back of a car while over the drug limit has been banned.

Ryan Underhill (23) was involved in a four-vehicle crash on the A149 at Heacham. After failing a roadside drug wipe, he was arrested. A test in custody showed 3.2mgs of a cannabis metabolite per litre of blood; the legal limit is two.

At King’s Lynn Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, Underhill admitted drug-driving on July 25. Tiffany Meredith, defending, said Underhill, of Delph Road, was heading to the beach with friends when his Volkswagen Golf was one of four cars involved in a shunt.

“He was quite shocked that he came across as over the drug-drive limit,” she added. “As with many people who occasionally smoke cannabis he was unaware how long it stays in the system. He wouldn’t have got behind the wheel if he had thought he was over the limit.”

Underhill, who had no previous convictions, was disqualified from driving for 12 months and fined £120 with £50 costs and £32 victim surcharge.
