Lorries are former Wisbech man’s Roger’s top art inspiration

A life-long love of lorries has combined with a life-long passion for art for a former Wisbech man.

Roger Alsop, who started his working life as a trainee reporter before joining the civil service and becoming a probation officer, spends as much time as possible creating art work with whatever medium “comes to hand”.

After being fired from his journalistic career he studied at the Cambridge College of Art with an ambition of being a professional artist.

Sadly that was not to be, although he has had some success illustrating books.

Roger, who lived with his parents Alan and Irene and two younger brothers in Chase Street, attended the Queen’s School.

He first started to enjoy art at the young age of four, and now at the age of 77, the passion is as strong as ever.

Roger loves painting anything that catches his eye like this building in Cadiz, Spain.

Roger now lives in Islington North London and is about to have an exhibition with the Islington Arts Association.

He said: “Art is my life, it always has been. I love lorries too and so I have spent a lot of my time painting them, but my are is continually evolving and more recently I have begun painting flowers and trees, which has been utterly surprising and unexpected for me.”
